tia’s bakery

At an end of summer gathering at the Hollywood Bowl, I was put in charge of prepping and preparing the food for the pre-show picnic basket dinner. (Right up my alley!)

So, off to Whole Foods – looking and shopping for some healthy appetizers and fun dishes for us all to share.  And then dessert – gotta have some fun dessert to top off the meal.  In the theme of staying clean and healthy I went searching for a yummy treat or two that would satisfy the sweet tooth without bogging us down with loads of fat and sugar.  Voilà – I found Tia’s Bakery.  I had never quite noticed this new line of desserts before.  I loved the small, simple, see through containers and the attractive label.  After reading the ingredient list on the gluten-free oatmeal cookies, I was excited to taste these treats and share them with my friends.  As we sampled our treasure, it was delightful to know they met my expectations  (it’s rare to find a healthy cookie these days that actually tastes great too.)  Tia’s Bakery hits the spot!

As I explored further I learned more about the company.  Tia’s products were created for people who desire great taste, wholesome, natural ingredients and who happen to want to avoid gluten. Tia’s Bakery was begun by a stay-at-home mom who loved to bake for a family that loves her desserts. When she no longer could tolerate wheat and gluten in her diet she stopped baking.  For three years her family suffered from lack of good home-made desserts until they could take it no longer.  She was given a ultimatum from her loving family: “If you must make it without wheat or gluten, fine. But it must have taste and texture like what we have always enjoyed.”

In January of 2009 she got it right and Tia’s Bakery was born.

Tia’s offers many great selections like gluten-free oatmeal and peanut butter cookies, strawberry shortcake, macaroons and my new favorite, chocolate bean brownies.  Tia’s desserts are made without ingredients with 18 syllables, refined sugar or gluten.

On top of having a super product line, Tia’s Bakery has the NICEST customer service!  Their general manager, Paul King, is a sweetheart who really cares about his company and his customers.  He has personally responded (with finesse, sincerity and humor) to me and many of my clients who have contacted him regarding his products.  Personally, I find that quite refreshing (and rare) in this day and age of computers and recorded operators.

So, next time you are looking for a fun, delicious tasty dessert that is clean, healthy and happens to be gluten-free, give Tia’s a try.  Tia’s Bakery products are available at Whole Foods, Santa Monica Co-op, Erewhon, Rainbow Acres and Follow Your Heart.  Tia’s is located in Los Angeles, but is making its way across the country.  Check out their website for more information about availability near you.  Oh, and please tell Paul the Holistic Nutritionista sent you!  Maybe he’ll write you back with one of his cute, savvy e-mails or possibly send you a sample or two ;)

Thanks for an interesting article. I shop in both those stores and have not come across this bakery, (try to steer clear generally), but now I’ll look.
Claudia Schwartz raved about your program for better health and weight loss using meal replacements, and I am interested in finding out more about it. Could you please contact me. Thanks. Sincerely, Pamela Holtzman
